About me:

My elder services developed while helping my mother with day-to-day needs that had become challenging as she entered her 80’s.  It started simply by helping her navigate various medical appointments, daily finances and securing safe service people for home repairs and maintenance. When the time came for her to downsize, I helped her with navigating the sale of her home and purchasing a smaller patio home and then the last years spent in a retirement communitie’s Assisted Living. From those experiences, I started Ask Alice to serve seniors in the Asheville area.

Growing up in a large family in Spartanburg, SC, I became a caring advocate at an early age for my sister who was born with IDD (Intelectual Developmental Disabilities).  In my youth, I was an active member in the US Pony Club and horse show competitions. My love for nature and wildlife lead me to join an all girls Explorer Scout Troup (the first in the nation) with the highlight being our trip to Philmont Scout Ranch in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of New Mexico, where we hiked over a 100 mile trek and climbed Baldy Mountain with an elevation of 12,441 feet.  As a young adult, my Junior League volunteer placement was to help launch HALTER, a therapeutic horseback riding program for the disabled.

My career path led to business management and operations. In the shopping center industry for many years as a mall manager, which began in Spartanburg, SC, then Durango, CO and onto Jacksonville, FL.  In 2001, a welcomed relocation to WNC by the Asheville Mall to oversee 50+ mall employees in maintenance, security, marketing and administration. Other duties included tenant relations with 100+ lessees, operating a $4 million budget, rent collections, marketing strategies, overseeing store build-outs, renovations, repairs and landscaping.  After leaving the mall industry and being a stay-at-home mom, returned to work as a contracted employee with the US Department of Veterans Affairs.  Prior to employment, a high security clearance was required from OPM (US Office of Personnel Management).  Served as IT Operations Manager for the VA’s CPAC (Consolidated Patient Account Center) during an expansion of Asheville’s main data center and to stand up 6 additional regional data centers across the country.  Primary role was managing the procurement of all IT equipment, systems and contracts. At the height of expansions, I was forecasting and operating an annual budget of $10 million for the seven data centers that supported the 4,000+ VA workers and programs within the CPAC department.

The skill sets honed in my personal and career path have gleaned a wide range of experiences and tools. This versatility, complimented with a nurturing disposition has shaped my ability to be an effective advocate, assistant and friend to my clients.

Happy to have called South Asheville my home for the last 24 years…..where I happily reside with my two beloved dogs.
